Anime Of The Week!

Ok, it is here where I will describe my Anime of the Week...or whatever time period it happens to be.

Trigun

This week's chosen anime is one of my absolute favs. Trigun. The setting is in the future, in kind of an old western atmosphere. Vash the Stampede, our main character, is an expert gunslinger. Ironically, he will avoid killing anyone at all costs. In that respect he reminds me of Kenshin. Many people say that this show is a cheap imitation of City Hunter, but I really like it. Vash, otherwise known as the Humanoid Typhoon, has a bounty of $$60 billion (double dollars) on his head. Although he acts like a big dork, he is actually very intelligent and an expert marksman.

Vash with Milliones Knives (I think) in the background.

Chased by every bounty hunter, law official, and two bit crook just looking for some money, Vash is forced to keep a low profile. Ironically, no one knows what this ledgendary outlaw actually looks like. His first criminal record came from the complete and total destruction of the city of July-a crime he has no memory of. The only things he can remember from that time, are his childhood and wandering through the debris of the ruined city. Vash is a mystery, with an unknown age and no fixed address.

Destruction and turmoil seem to swarm around this peace loving gunman. So much destruction, that two agents from the Fernarl Insurance Agency, Milly Thompson and Merryl Stryfe, are assigned to find him and investigate/fine him for the supposed damage.

Trigun is an excellant anime that I highly recommend. My summary does not do it justice, you just have to see it for yourself. Like all animes, it can be serious at times, but it is generally lighthearted and funny. Vash is by far my favorite character, but I also like the little black cat, Kuraneko. The cat is supposedly there for comic relief, but otherwise it serves no intelligible purpose. I'm just amused by how randomly it shows up, and that none of the characters seem to acknowledge its existence.
